| Content Summary | Stating that his book consists of an introduction, three main chapters and a conclusion, Ibrâhim Hakkı, in the person of his son, explains to his readers in summary form the conclusions and lessons to be drawn from the work. The first chapter of the muqaddima, which consists of four chapters, begins with around eighty verses about the creation and functioning of the earth and the hereafter, followed by information on ancient cosmography based on tafsir and hadith. The final topics of the Muqaddima are the signs of the apocalypse, and the states and places of the Hereafter from the time of the blowing of the sûra. The first chapter is devoted to the creation and characteristics of the material world. In the following chapters, various information such as the technique of predicting a person's psychological abilities and morals based on the shape of the organs (ilm-i kıyâfet) is presented. Mârifetnâme is an encyclopedic work that encompasses the knowledge and culture of its time on sciences such as mysticism, ethics, theology and fiqh, as well as disciplines such as arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, physiognomy and psychology. |
