Zoom Lecture by Marinos Sariyannis with the topic “Geographies and Histories of the Ottoman Supernatural Tradition: Exploring Magic, the Marvelous, and the Strange in Ottoman Mentalities”

The lecture is part of a series launched in collaboration with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies-FORTH and the Institute of European Studies of the University of California, Berkeley for the research in history undertaken in both establishments to enhance communication, knowledge and exchange of ideas. Tarih: 2 Mart 2021, saat 18:00 Garip vakalar, gizli bilimler ve büyü Osmanlı bilim ve kültür tarihi içinde yeni bir alan oluşturmaktadır. Bugün bizim için doğa ve doğaüstü çok net bir biçimde birbirinden ayrı alanlar olmasına rağmen modern öncesi kültürlerde bu sınır daha belirsizdi: Bir yandan bilinebilen ilebilinemeyen arasında, öte yandan da normal (döngüsel) süreç ile mucize (ya da keramet) arasındaki farklar daha önemliydi. Bu konuşmada, Rethymno’da (Girit) yürütülmekte olan GHOST projesi üzerinden Osmanlı’da doğaüstü denilen vakaların ve olayların algılanışı ele alınacaktır.
